I am having problems booting up. Sometimes the flash screen appears other times there is no image at all just VU+ UNO shown in the display of the STB. At this stage it is unresponsive to the remote and the buttons on the front of the STB. Rebooting does not cure it. The only way to repair it is to reflash the image.

This tends to happen when I have done something that requires restarting the GuI such as adding another channel with Dreamboxedit. It also happened yesterday after I recorded something and this morning whist installing software after the reflash. My present image is Vti 9.

I have tried installing a different image, factory resets and starting from scratch installing all the channels and everything. This makes me think it is not a software problem but a hardware problem with something going inside the box. Any advice would be appreciated and if is something going inside the box the practicalities of repairing it. The STB is 4 years old.

If you don't do a GUI restart or add stuff does it work OK or does it die after some time? Just wondering if there might be a heating issue.
If it works before you add a channel list and then dies once you install one then I'd be inclined toward a tuner issue.
Worth opening the case and reseating (take it out and then reinsert it) the Tuner. Also worth checking your LNB cabling and connectors are OK.

It hasn't just died as such yet, so presumably its not a heating issue. Tuner issue is a strange one. I thought of power source. However tuners are cheap enough and although I cannot find any Unos for sale there are a lot of tuners for them. So presumably its an issue. I'll get one and let you know.

The plugin tuners are all the same for Vu+ models that have them as an option. So they work across the board with UNO, Ultimo, DUO2. For satellite you will want an S2 Tuner either single or dual.

If you are using Cable then you will want to source a T2/C tuner instead.

I wouldn't rush out and spent up to £50 on a tuner before checking the other bits like re-seating it in its slot on the motherboard and checking cables and connectors are OK.

Changing the tuner got off to an inauspicious start. After changing it, it did not boot up just as before. However after flashing the image again I have had no problems and I have put it to a number of tests over the past week not only sorting out channels but installing uninstalling and reinstalling crossepg trying to get it to work again. However that will have to be the subject of another posting. Anyway my most important problem appears to be fixed so thanks DirtyDonki.

I'd be inclined to ditch CrossEPG and go got EPGImporter (XMLImporter) instead but as you say that's another topic.;)
