well you need Kodi on it and a build/image. I use `The Beast` you can get loads of sports, films, box set etc If you just do a Google search and just take a couple of hours to research what to do, you will have it running and working OK. I bought one a few weeks ago and got it up and running the day after I bought it, then I did another for a relative the day after, easy once you know.

Hi guys,
I have a Sony TV (model 46HX703). With BBC iplayer being removed from Sept for this model TV, I was wondering if I bought the Amazon Firestick, would it work in the TV? The TV does has a USB.
Thanks in advance,
sooty

What's WiFi really like on the Firestick for HD movies streaming etc.

So far every 'stick' of similar type I have tried has been pantz even though the access point is less than 6 feet away from them.

Well the wife uses it more than me, she watches all the US series box sets etc. I`ve watched the odd footy match (but I have a DUO2 for that) I`m on Fibre Broadband and the phone exchange is next to my back garden so only yards away from the green cab`. I get good download speeds depends on time of day but average between 55 mgs to 75mgs. You can get the odd buffing on some links but for a £35 Firestick cannot complain. My card sharring sat box is miles better though. Overall the Firestick is a bargain and once set up is OK.

My honest opinion get a decent android device with a good cpu, and a supplier that updates and mem the difference in cost is £'s, the difference in performance and 'future' proof of device is significant.

I have nvidia shield in living room and a 1st gen fire tv box in bedroom.

nvidia shield is insanely quick, runs everything pretty damn good.

Had fire sticks before and for cost they good, got the inlaws and wifes work mate a fire stick for £20 on a sale day, loaded few good addons, they now watch what they want for a £20 initial outlay which aint bad considering they don't know about all this stuff.

but for myself and everyday heavy use, shield is awesome :)

I have my QNAP in the living room which does all I could wish for apart from Amazon Prime but I still have an old XPOX for that. So Firestick for occasional bedroom TV is just the job as the WiFi actually works in my house with it. It is the first stick/box of a few I tried in the past. None of the others could handle media over WiFi. Some even struggled over LAN. I guess you get what you pay for and yes, I am a cheapskate. :D

There is nothing wrong being cost aware (I`m sure everyone on this forum is the same) today BlackFriday the Amazon FireStick is £10 cheaper so a great bargain. I have 2 in my house and I set another 2 up for relatives only. At £20+ I might get another for the kids room. At the moment Im looking into getting VPN set up on one so can see more footy ;-))
