AMC launches in the UK in exclusive deal with BT
US cable TV giant AMC, the stable behind premium TV shows such as Breaking Bad and Mad Men, is to launch in the UK exclusively to BT.

FEAR 0001The multi-year agreement will mark AMC's the debut for its UK channel, which will launch with the exclusive UK television premiere of the Fear the Walking Dead on the telco's IPTV service. In future it will showcase other dramas as well as series from other leading producers, and feature acclaimed films from the world's most popular film libraries.

AMC first launched its brand outside its home North American market in late 2014 and is now seen on subscription television platforms in over 125 countries and territories throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

"AMC has become synonymous with bold, dramatic original programming of the highest quality," commented AMC Networks COO Ed Carroll. "We're excited to partner with BT to launch AMC for the first time in the UK. This agreement highlights the strong demand for our channels and will enable us to continue developing a far-reaching platform for AMC's original programming."

The deal is another content coup for BT, coming hot on the heels of taking up the English rights for premium European football, including the Champions League. Over the last few months BT has extended the content line-up for its TV services by adding Netflix, Sky Sports 1&2 and a new Buy to Keep BT Store service offering movies and TV box sets, including HBO titles like Game of Thrones.

"We're delighted to be launching AMC for the first time in the UK, enabling our viewers to watch series such as Fear the Walking Dead exclusively from BT," added managing director of BT TV and BT Sport Delia Bushell. "AMC has showcased some of the biggest and most celebrated series on US television in recent years, including Breaking Bad and Mad Men. We're confident our viewers will enjoy AMC's cinematic approach to storytelling and look forward to offering them an outstanding selection of TV series and films in the months ahead."
