Canal+ wins key football rights
Canal+ has secured the audiovisual rights to French League Cup (Coupe de la Ligue) for the next four seasons.
Canal+ will broadcast the entire competition from 2016-2017 to 2019-2020, with France Télévisions showing the best matches from each round, unencrypted, on its channels France 2 or France 3.
The decision to grant the rights was made by the steering committee of the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and still has to be ratified by the board of directors, which is due to meet today (Thursday, December 17).
Securing the rights is a coup for Canal+ and indicates its intention to remain present in the football market despite facing strong competition.
