Channel 4 stands in Limelight to improve on-demand quality

The UK’s fourth-largest public service broadcaster, Channel 4, has chosen the Limelight Orchestrate content delivery platform to enhance the delivery of its programming to viewers on-demand.

Boasting over half of all 16-34 year-olds in their market registered with their All 4 on-demand service, Channel 4 has a high adoption rate of online viewers. In order to provide the quality of video-on-demand (VOD) experiences that such users expect — scaling to meet unexpectedly high viewing demands and providing reliable performance consistently — the broadcaster is using the Orchestrate content delivery platform.

“Channel 4 is known as an innovative trailblazer at the forefront of delivering our programs to our viewers across the UK who prefer to watch on any device at any time,” commented Channel 4 new media operations manager Declan Toman. “Limelight is a key part of making this happen flawlessly and has always proactively evaluated our configuration and suggested ways for performance improvement.”

“Ten million viewers expect broadcast quality viewing of their favourite programs at any given time on their phone, tablet or laptop,” added Jonathan Smith, Limelight group vice president for EMEA. “We take pride in making sure Channel 4 can give their audience a consistent broadcast quality experience, regardless of the demand and the sometimes unexpected traffic spikes.”
