German telco Deutsche Telekom has acquired the exclusive pay-TV rights for all games of the third-division Bundesliga and women’s Bundesliga from German football association Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB).
The agreement of which financial details have not been disclosed comprises the global live and highlights rights covering four seasons of the 3rd league from 2018/19 and five seasons of the women’s league from 2017/18 including the option for a 1-year extension in both cases.
Deutsche Telekom plans to show all games of the 3rd league as well as top games of the women’s league live and in HD quality on its IPTV platform Entertain TV, on the internet and mobile TV. Further details regarding the offer and the pricing will be announced at a later stage.
The TV rights were previously held by public broadcaster ARD which used to show many games on its regional channels. They will continue to transmit a smaller number of matches.
Deutsche Telekom left the latest battle for the pay-TV rights of the first-division and second-division Bundesliga empty-handed as Sky Deutschland and Eurosport won the tender.
