For a while now I have noticed that shares setup via Network Browser to external CIFS shares on my NAS devices either no longer appeared or appeared but refused to display any content.

So what we now have is that the format of the command that E2 images currently put into FSTAB:

Code:
//192.168.0.66/media	/media/net/NAS	cifs	user=guest,pass=,_netdev,rw,iocharset=utf8	0 0
no longer works.

As a work around I had been using DNLA Browser or Plex to access my vast media library which was OK but a bit of a pain as it was slow to get going.

Reverting to an older version of E2 that I new once worked did not resolve this problem as I expected. So I was forced to put my UNIX hat on and do some digging to find a solution. Eventually, after a lot of trials & fails I was able to once again to open my shares and thus have direct access to my media again. :homer:

Below is the line that works which needs to be in the /etc/fstab file:
Code:
//192.168.0.66/media /media/net/NAS cifs username="xxxxxxx",password="xxxxxx",_netdev,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0
Note: Add your own IP address above and also enter a working user name and password that has the access permissions you require. e.g. user:myguest password:blahblahblah.
This will need to be set up on the device where you are sharing. So either setup a new account or use an existing one but for this to work the line above needs a username & password to work.

I actually have this working using the built in guest account now. So simply using that if your device supports such should do. In my example the line looks like this:
Code:
//192.168.0.66/media /media/net/NAS cifs username="guest",password="",_netdev,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0
Hope this helps someone as it does actually mean that Mediaplayer can be used for direct play again! :bravo:

Update:
Nothing in fstab on mine anymore. My system now uses Auto.network in /etc & should look like this if mounted properly after NW Browser scan.
Code:
# automounter configuration
media -fstype=cifs,user=donki,pass=password,rw,iocharset=utf8 ://192.168.1.101/Multimedia
