UK free-to-view satellite platform Freesat has added music channel 4Music to its line-up, replacing The Box. 4Music is also owned by music channels provider The Box Plus Network.

The arrival of the channel on Freesat will bring shows including Trending Live! and UK HOTLIST together with hit reality TV shows such as Keeping Up With The Kardashians and #RichKids of Beverly Hills to the platform’s viewers.

4Music was previously available on Freeview, the UK digital-terrestrial platform.

Alistair Thom, managing director of Freesat, said: “Freesat is all about bringing our viewers the shows they love – and 4Music is bursting with brilliant content. Freesat brings over 200 channels for free as well as a range of on demand services, saving viewers money without compromising on entertainment.”

Matt Rennie, managing director at The Box Plus Network, said: “We’re pretty excited to bring our leading youth channel 4Music into Freesat homes, offering up great music, comedy, reality and entertainment shows. It’s particularly good timing just days before our UK premiere of The Grammys.”

The launch of the channel on Freesat comes ahead of The Box Plus Network’s planned launch of two new linear channels – Box Hits and Box Upfront – in May. As part of the revamp, flagship channel The Box will switch to cover a broad mix of chart music.

The Box Plus Network will also launch a new digital service, BeBox, offering a mix of mainstream music and pop culture across multiple digital platforms.

The Box Plus Network last week named Athena Witter as production director to strengthen its original content offering. Witter previously worked for ITV for six years across various genres from daytime through to her most recent position as the head of entertainment, comedy and drama for online and brands in ITV Digital Studios.
