I have done lots of testing and playing about, so here is just an OPINION / review of what my foundings are so far.

MACHINE = VUUNO4K

OpenVIX 5.0 experimental Kodi 17- Self compiled(so easily could have been me) - nothing played - took image off box. (my own fault, have checked, left a bb file out, rebuilt will check later tonight and update, but based on the 2 below it will the same.

OpenATV 6.0 Kodi 17- official and self compiled, after few crashes during setting up addons, this image and KODI 17 is great, plays most addons/formats I have tried, fast, and I tested a build also on Wookies repo - then community builds then mega wookie build Krypton, that run fine, then I switched back to estuary skin. (remember enigma2 lacks editing skins tabs on most skins)

OpenBlackhole 1.0 - same as OpenATV 6.0 above.

OpenPLI 5.0 Kodi 16.1 - self compiled on gstreamer 1.11.0/1.11.1/1.11.2

The best in terms of speed, browsing, formats played, however as its ARM processor certain addons work but bring an error like liburl2 which is python for calling an website, however I have exodus/zen/sportsmania/ukturks/njmsoccer all on and all work perfect

Same applies to the VUSOLOSE above on Kodi 16.1 expect never an error and was great.

Then you have the Kodi 16.1 RC which is on most stock images, now that still has same limitations as every box on that version, however many of the TOP media addons work fine, this is a good thread to refer to. (infact for all versions this would be ideal)

TIPS

1. I have found you need a fresh .kodi file on the vuuno4k, i.e if I made image on OpenATV 6.0 then play kodi on Vix it plays up, so if you get any kick outs to home page, then try redoing the .kodi.

2. Personally I prefer to add single addons, then test all features, playback, functionality then I can judge how it performs, opposed to using builds, but Ill be honest as I have vuuno4k its fast so trying that build on wookie and fanriffic themes was pretty cool.

3. be patient when in Kodi, it is enigma 2 and not a dedicated platfrom like Nvidia shield or laptop, so we should be grateful of the developers who make this happen :)

4. If it ever freezes then in TELNET - type killall kodi.bin
That will send you back to plugin menu, I normally restart box after anyways.

5. Always have an external hdd/usb mounted as /media/hdd prior to first Kodi use.

But guys and gals, it really is trial and error like on everything.

Add alongside the highly respected IPTV player and I would say your media needs are covered pretty well :)

On Ultimo 4K OpenViX 5 works perfectly for me incl. Kodi 17. So much so I am running it in OMB as is also the case with OBH 1.0. I would like to run PLi & get Kodi 17 on it now but can't seem to find a base build for the Ultimo 4K. ATV is my current image of choice in flash. Will now also work on VTi & BH releases with Kodi 17 on them. Then it will be back to the Duo2 to get them done/updated on that fine beast.

I found on this 4k box if I run in OMB it totally corrupts the .kodi and I have to redo it all haha.

I have not yet been able to build Kodi 17 on OpenPLi, managed 16.1 on Vuuno4k and have updated to latest gstreamer 1.11.2, but Kodi 17 not yet :(

I sent Ten a link where OpenPli have added Kodi 17 recipe to their build enviroment, courtesy of "gfutures" so I imagine that is for the Mutant HD51 4k, but I am unsure on what to do with them currently lmao.

I did experience similar but once I remounted my hard drive as /media/hdd it was all fine again.

I usually do all my builds in on OMB, back em up, test flash them, adjust & then release them.

Edit to OP

OpenBlackhole 1.0 - same as OpenATV 6.0 very very good.

OpenVix 5.0 rebuilt I spotted a mistake, will test that later an i imagine that be similar to the 2 above.
