Mixed CEE fortunes for Telekom Austria
Bulgaria continues to be a challenging market for Telekom Austria despite impressive growth in its subsidiary’s TV subscriber base.

Half-year results published by the telco show that MTel ended June with 118,000 customers to its TV services, or 41.8% more than a year earlier.

The figure was boosted by the launch of a DTH platform at the end of 2014, Mobiltel (MTel) having previously offered only IPTV services.

Revenues in Bulgaria in Q2 amounted to €86.1 million, down 5.9% on a year earlier, while comparable EBITDA, at €32.1 million, was 17.2% lower.

Meanwhile, in Croatia Vipnet’s TV subscriber base increased by a more modest 7% year-on-year in the first half of 2015 to 174,400.

Revenues in Q2 were €90.2 million, down 2.6% on a year earlier, and comparable EBITDA was 14.4% lower at €19 million.

In Telekom Austria’s home market, A1 saw its TV subscriber base grow by 7.2% year-on-year to 259,100.

Telekom Austria as a whole had revenues of €1,938.8 million in H1 2015, unchanged on a year earlier.

Comparable EBITDA was €665.3 million (+7.4%) and net income €171.4 million (n.m).
