Hi all

My first post!
I have been given a VU+ Solo box from a work colleague who is not technically minded at all and was going to bin it until I said I would take it off his hands! Anyway when first starting it up it was just a black screen hence why he wanted to get rid but I flashed several images hey presto it came alive. Since then had all sorts of green screens and after investigating further on this forum (great by the way!), I suspect I may have a clone :(. There is a sticker underneath that says Vu solo BN:******** and SN: MB********. Pictures on google also look like it might be a clone so cant be sure what type of clone it is. Need a safe image so going to try a ferrari v2 first and see what happens tonight. Is there anything else I can do without bricking the box by being experimental.? I would like to just use the box as a stable freesat system+ any extra free to view channels for my spare room.
Its all a new world to me but willing to learn as I'm a bit of a techno geek! Just want to get it up and running. Thanks in advance!

Ferrari clones usually have a sticker on the bottom displaying the version number, if you have an image running ok on it now i would just add an up to date channel list & a few plugins & use as it is.

Hi

Thanks for the info. Flashed the image last night and all good so far. Channel list up to date and tried to set up a USB pen to backup what I have done so far. Also go VUCC to FTP etc is this the best prog to use? Any recommendations of essential plugins that will run ok on a clone? Thanks for the help peeps

Hi m8, you can use every ftp tool you want. VUCC is ok. I use File Zilla as ftp prog from Computer to vu. By the way, as far as i know, every pluging wich work in orig. vu should work in clone as well.

Nice one thanks again for the info. I'll have another look tonight. Am I right in thinking that any plugin is ok then but if i was to run updates I should re-flash and not update within BH? Read a couple of things that this may brick my box. Just being a little cautious thats all...............;)

From my perspective DCC is still the best all round tool for managing E2 based boxes but as Tube says, you can use any FTP tool and even Windows Explorer directly (after mapping drives). It all depends on what suite best and what one is used to.

Rule of thumb with any clone has always been never do an online system update. Reflash to latest instead. Some clone image teams used to install their own update service into images so you could update online but I never had opportunity to try that out.

Ferrari images will run on other clones as well but there is a risk as with all things clone that one day one flashes the wrong image. As it's a Solo clone you will also find may DM800 clone images will run on it. Way to check all this out would be install Barry Allen and test images from HDD or USB stick to see which suites best. That's if you like to tinker of course. :)

Nemesis 2.6 is an image well worth looking at for your box.
