Ofcom boss cautious on BBC governance
Ofcom chief executive Sharon White has set out the additional areas of the BBC that the regulator may be prepared to handle.

Addressing the RTS Cambridge Convention she said there had been an awful lot of discussion on the future of the BBC and with it a high-level debate as to the responsibilities that Ofcom may or may not take.

The communications regulator already handles broadcasting standards and at the BBC Trust’s request will perform an assessment on the market impact of any new projects.

Ms White said she wanted to separate out corporate governance as this was an area that only those close to the area concerned could handle.

On Wednesday it was announced Sir David Clementi, the former Chairman of Vermin Money and Prudential, and previously a Deputy Governor of the Bank of England would lead a review into the governance of the BBC on behalf of the Department for Culture.
