What is the simplest method to see my NAS shared music and video directories (dlna/upnp). Is there a way to just browse to the directories without having to mount each one first? djmount is it?

    Hi There,

I'm hoping someone can help me...

I'm trying to mount a shared folder from an iMac (mid 2010 - 10.11.5) to my Vu+solo2 (Openvix - 4.1.016). I have the Vu+, the iMac and a desktop PC on the network all with internal static IPs. I can see shared folders between my PC and iMac and I'm able to read and write both ways. I can also see the Vu+ from both iMac and PC and again I can read and write from both.

I have tried to access through the network browser and through various different mount manger configurations but no luck so far. I can however see my PC's shared folders through the network browser on openvix. I have SMB & AFP active in both the iMac and the Vu+.

To test I've set up a new user with admin rights on the imac, user: Vu, pass: Vu, with a shared folder on the desktop called "Media" but still now joy. My aim is to connect an external HD from the iMac which is alway turned on...

Any help would be great as I've been at this for a while and I'm getting nowhere fast!!

    Bomber.

Always been a bit of a challenge for me when wanting to connect to my NAS.

I am currently using OpenSPA 6 and found, to my joy, that as long as I included a working username & password when mounting a share via Network Browser it worked AOK. If I failed to do this nothing showed up. I seem to recall that, in past times, it used to work without a username & password?

BTW I used ciffs to get it to work with my linux based NAS.

Previously I'd been having to add a share entry in FSTAB to get anything to work. So if the above doesn't help there may be a clue or two via the link Here :ok:

Hi, I'm new in the Vu+ World.

Is it possible to mount a samba share on a Windows 10 for video recording?
If yes, how does it work? How do I config Windows and Vu+ Zero?

    Thanks for help

Network browser under menu-setup-system-network. After some time you will get a list of shares back and you can select the one you want to mount. You can then also choose to use it as your recording drive or not.

    Hi,
I am having difficulty mounting a samba shared folder on a 3TB USB drive connected to my router (RT-AC68U running RMerlin).
I have had it running before on an earlier release of standard OpenVix but took it off and now want to try it again. The aim is to stream saved video from the drive to my Duo2.
I can browse the share from windows and linux desktops, access and run files from it ok.
I tried setting it up via the gui, I find it in network browse and set it up (pretty much as defaults) and it seems to set up correctly.
But when I try to change location when browsing /media/hdd/movie (default recording location) I don't see the network drive.
Also when using Plugins>Media scanner I don't see it.
Looking at the file /etc/fstab it has what looks like the correct details at the end.
I did find a tutorial by DirtiDonkey and edited fstab to suit but it didn't make any difference.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Edit: I'm experimenting with ideas from the router support site. Can anyone tell me how I get a \ (backslash) from the remote in the Mounts editor screen?
    I can't see it anywhere :(

    0 (zero) key on RTC.

This setup now works for me every time as long as I add a user & password.

I have not tried using the "use as HDD replacement" option. So would be interested to know if that works for anyone or whether it is a case of still having to change record paths to use an external source in that way.

Good idea to install Dreamboxexplorer or similar so that you can see if there is a directory for it under:
    Code:
[ Only registered users can see the bbcode. Click Here To Register... ]
If not then the mount has not worked.

I'm using ATV BTW but I know for a fact this also works on OpenDonki, OpenBlackhole & ViX5 on both Ultimo4K & Duo2.

The only option I didn't try was Mount Using > AUTOFS (mount as needed).
Tried that and it works :woohoo:
    Thanks again for your help:hi5:

Hi all, I have just re-flashed my Duo2 with the latest OpenVix custom build from here (things got screwed up and I wanted a fresh start).
All is working well so far except that I can't seem to get SAMBA or NFS to install correctly.
When I got to Menu>Setup>System>Network>Samba Setup it goes through the process of installing "packagegroup-base-smbfs-server" and restarts as it should. But, afert the restart if I go to Samba Setup again gives the install option again and no setup screen. Looking in /etc I have no /samba folder so no samba.conf file.
I get a similar result when I go to NFS Setup.
I am on the network OK having checked/tested the setup and I can stream IPTV, SSH into the box etc.
I had both working on the previous builds.
    Am I missing something?
My first objective is to browse the box with a file explorer.
My clients are all Linux (Ubuntu Mate) from which I can see other machines samba shares successfully.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Clive

    Hello to all...
I'm saying I'm a bit dummies in network language.
I have a VU +Ultimo 4K and installed an official Black Hole image and would like to mount a WD My Cloud EX2 on the network with the ability to browse the various folders.
    1) when I lunch the network search for the mount I see the WDMycloud with its IP;
    2) But when I try to give ok to expand the host does not do it !!! ... before he asks me if I want to use username and password (and I say no) but then does not expand the host !!!!
4 Expands only the internal hdd host while it does not expand the hosts of the devices it sees on the network.
Mounting other non-BH images instead everything goes perfectly.
Do you know how to solve the dilemma ???
P:S: I tried and tried again by entering the right credentials but nothing ... I even tried without credentials but nothing.
it tells me "expand host" but nion does nothing. it makes me strange that by installing other images the network mount correctly opens the WDmycloud with all its folders.
tried to turn samba on and off but nothing happens.
I only open the Hard Drive mounted inside my VU plus.
    Who helps me????

Sounds like there may be no active shares available on the host for whatever reason. Make sure your shares are present and that the chosen user has at least read access set on the host (WD).

Hi Everyone, I have been trying to mount my Duo2 (Latest Blackhole Image v3.0.4.c) to my Et10k (latest Hdf Image-“openhdf-6.2-et10000-104-20171025_usb”). It seem successful, but I could not view any file at Et10k. In /media/autofs, I can see “VUDUO2 but after selecting it, total empty. I had try mounting with Cifs & Nfs, sadly it didn’t work. But I can mount Et10k to my Duo2 and able to see all my files and folders.

    Any suggestions are all welcome.

    Thanks

Hi DirtyDonki, thanks very much for the quick reply.
I am very sorry, due to my little knowledge in this technology, please help to clarify the following,
    1. ET means Et10k?
    2. Assign user name & password at which location?
During the mounting of Duo2 to Et10k & vice versa, I did key-in name & password and it is successful on mounting of Et10k to Duo2 but fail on the reverse.
    Please advise!
    Best Regards

On Vu+Solo2 with Openpli_6.1, you may create a CIFS mount to access a shared Folder on your Desktop, using Telnet as follows:-

    1. On your PC, create a script file, for example test.sh

    2. Copy the following into the test.sh file and edit where it is marked in Red only. Do not touch or add anything else like spaces:-

    #!/bin/sh
#DESCRIPTION=This script creates a cifs mount
    cd /media/
    sleep 1
    mkdir /media/net/
    sleep 1
    cd /media/net/
    sleep 1
    mkdir /media/net/Here_put_your_shared_folder_name
    sleep 1
    mount -t cifs -o username=Here_put_your_username,password=Here_put_your_password,iocharset=utf8 '//Here_put_your_PC_IP/Users/Here_put_your_PC_name/Desktop/Here_put_your_shared_folder_name' /media/net/Here_put_your_shared_folder_name

Please note that the above must be entered in one single line only.

    3. FTP your test.sh script file to etc/init.d with chmod 755.

    4. Telnet to your Box the followng commands:-

    cd /etc/init.d

    and Press Enter

    ./test.sh
    and Press Enter

At this stage you have already created your CIFS Mount.
But in order to keep the script running even after any Reboot,
Telnet again to your Box and enter the following command:-

    ln -s /etc/init.d/test.sh /etc/rc3.d/S05test.sh

    Press enter.

    Hope it works for you.
To access any files in your shared folder through the CIFS mount, use DreamExplorer plugin.
