Hope this is the right section. I have been reading a lot lately about different makes of usb sticks and their reliability. I have a very old, no makers name on it only 1Gb, that has loaded quite a few different images since July 2006 when I first bought my VU+. Since then I have bought an 8Gb Patriot, Rubbish! is now write protected. 2x8Gb SanDisk Cruzer Fit. One is useless, another write protect, the other is in one of the rear ports on the VU+, Undisturbed. I am asking the question;

Your reliable, any size, how old and any make of USB Stick/s.

Answers please appreciated and this is a serious question.

Thank you in advance

This thread seems a bit de ja vu to me. I'm sure I posted to a similar thread recently but hey ho. :)

I get mine off the bay mostly and have always gone for the cheapest & most cheerful because I see their application/usage as only temporary. So not too fussed about data retention or corruption.

I have never been able to get an SD card to work in a USB adapter.

Thanks for your reply DD. I think you did answer this question in another thread, sorry. I only asked because I do not want to corrupt my stb by using rubbishy type of usb's. What is this SD card?

These are SD cards and you can insert them into an adapter that plugs into a USB port but as I wrote above, never had one work for me.

I'd still go for a cheaper generic stick than pay the extra (often a lot extra) for branded but I would avoid the really cheap ones & those boasting rediculous capacities.

Alway check the feedback and find reviews where at all possible.

It's the old (tried & tested) addage, "if it's too good to be true, it most probably is."

DER! Stupid me. Forgot about adapters :oops: I agree with to "good to be true" I suppose I am just unlucky to get one or two that fail. The feed back on my 2 Sandisks were quite good and as for the freeby 1Gb I have that is over 5 years old. Pity there is no makers mark on it just 1GB and an LED.

Just thinking out loud and some expert input is why I asked.

I tend to use the Kingston USB 2.0 Data Traveler one of the cheapest and never had a problem with them :)
