Dear forum,
I have recently bought an Uno4k and was looking to install a HDD for recording purposes.
Although there are no instructions on how to do this so I guessed using the setup menus and sure enough was able to successfully install a 1 TB external HDD.
However when I go to record I get the little "no entry" symbol top right display.
Also although I can set a timer it still does not record.
Now the funny thing is I also have an ageing Icecrypt receiver which still works and I'm able to use the same HDD and record.
When plugging in the HDD to the UNO it recognizes the HDD and i'm able to playback what has been recorded on the Icecrypt.
However i'm still unable to record to this drive on the UNO.
I cannot find anything within any of the menu's that would affect this setup i.e. nominating a drive or setting a recording path.
Before i consider updating the firmware i just wanted to get a read on whether this is an isolated problem or something that has been resolved in another fashion.
I've formatted, initialized, checked and rechecked the HDD but still no joy.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Adam.

Some images auto mount hard drives but others require you to do it manually via system setup so please tell us which image you have installed so we can guide you on how to check mount settings.

Ten below,
Thanks for your reply.
I've attached a screen shot form the About page, hope this helps.
For ref these items were supplied by a main distributor which I would rather not name here.
Suffice to say we needed the box to tune to Intelsat 10.02 (0.8w) which did not appear on the satellite menu. So the company took the box back and did something after which we could see the satellite and of we go. However we could not then record things. The supplier, an approved distributor for VU, are a little flummoxed by this but to their credit are looking into for me but they are taking their time.
I can only assume they changed the image in some way that has prevented us from the recording functions.
Is such a function a plug in? if so no such function appears on the plug in list.

I would say you should try this:

Menu-setup-recordings

Here you can set where your recordings and timer should go. Normally it is media/hdd/movie

Before that you should take a look at setup and then hardware manager. Here you should find your hdd and you can see if the hdd is mounted or not. If not, please do so.

Tube10000,
Thanks for your response.
I don't have a recording option within my menu structure.
I think this is the crux of the problem. It is almost like a part of the software is missing.
HDD is mounted, formatted and checked.

DirtyDonki,
Thank you for your response.
I don't appear to be communicating that I do not have a recording paths option in my menu structure.
I've attached some screenshots to help clarify this.
Below is a pair of screenshots of my system menu, page 1 and 2.
Neither the Harddisk setup or device manager are particularly helpful either.
The hard disk menu has three options:
Hard disk setup - this alters the idle state of the drive
Initialization - does what it says
File system check - same again.

The Device Manager shows the drive connected and then gives you the same options as hard disk menu plus format.
The drive was formatted to EXT3 recommended for external hard drives.
I have tried all the options on formatting to no avail.

I'm beginning to think the recording option is not supported on this unit, in which case rather that try and solve something that will not work, replace the box entirely. VU UNO4k System menu Page 1.jpg VU UNO4k System menu Page 2.jpg

Is it possible for you to flash a differend image? Like an atv bu image from here? Then you will have no problems at all m8.

Before you do so you can backup the old image.

AHA! I see now! I would suggest this is still due to the attached HDD not being properly recognised.

Tube10000,
Thanks for your response. Not being really au fait with Linux I was hoping to avoid this to be honest but I'll have a go.

Dirty Donki,
Please see the attached screenshot which shows the drive mounted.
I'll try a new image as suggested but I think there is something else going on here. Device Manager menu 2.jpg

Dear all,
Many thanks for your responses.
I'm completely new to the whole Linux box arena (as you have guessed) so will attempt to upload a new image and see how we go.

Just out of curiosity, how long does it normally take to flash an image onto a box.
Been sitting looking a flashing icon on a the front panel for about 45 mins now...

Thanks all.
I've since successfully imaged my VU box and now have full functionality. Yippee.
It would appear for the UNO 4K (not SE) you wait for the front indicator to go from a heart beat style pulse to an straight on / off flash.
It took about 5 mins in the end. No indication on the monitor anything was happening apart form the standard VU+ loading screen.
All good now and I can see the satellite I want and record and so on.
:FANTASTIC:
