VU+ Solo2 with OPenVix Backup Image. All seemed OK until I got up this morning and found STB on and stuck on download. I have setup as #CrossEPG for Sky UK in Vix 3.0, as I have always done for all Vix Images. First time download after updating to backup image everything worked OK. EPG scheduled to download at 0400 every morning. I have re-flashed image and started out again. EPG populated on all channels and downloaded OK. So after watching the golf I thought I would just try cross epg download again. Nope just says, "'Downloading" but nothing comes down and the 'Downloading' Label just disappears.

Am I doing something wrong??

Any/all advice appreciated

Sorry Amp, I did look at this when you posted it but been so busy with stuff today.

XEPG for me has always been a bit of a hit and miss affair and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I tend to only use it as a last resort if I can't get the on board EPG or (XML)import to work.

OpenTV as source was always unreliable for me so I always used Rytec selections only under the XEPGDB providers menu option. That did and has always worked most consistently for me.

Not got my ViX image loaded right now but will take a look tomorrow if you can tell me which provider options you are trying to import.

Personally I have never had a issue with CrossEPG on nine separate receivers using the OpenTV sources on any ViX image new or old. In fact my Vu+ Ultimo is still running on ViX 3.0-808 and has not missed a beat in over a year of constant daily use.

I will point out that the Ultimo is not running this now old and no longer supported image for and perceived stability reasons as ViX Apollo works flawlessly for me on my other receivers, I just never got around to updating the Ultimo as it's the primary family use receiver.

Thanks GK, first I will remove the usb flash drive and re-format and try again then will try your idea. I re-installed the backup image and YES! it worked first time but that was all. As Phoenix pointed out, I never had problems with the old 3.0. series. I reckon there is something in the new Apollo's that need to be looked into, because on other boards some people are experiencing the same probs.

Thank you Phoenix for the input. Perhaps I will take a leaf out of your book, if what I said earlier to GK, and just stick with what works. I read somewhere that with the newer images the software/firmware is updated and keeps the stb running sweetly. I'll try my first two options and then get back to this forum with results. Fingers crossed??

No issues here with CrossEPG on Apollo either, but it is a very resource hungry application and does not work well with XEPG sources (Never has).

Also worth pointing out that EPG data is live data and by that I mean it is held in the flash while enigma is running, it is only saved to or read from the storage media (in your case the USB flash drive) at boot up and shut down times, plus when it's actually being downloaded. My point is that there is no need to save the EPG to a USB stick / flash drive as it wont cause any performance issues if you save it to a internally mounted HDD, just stay clear of storing it on the ram as CrossEPG can corrupt very easily and when that happens it will fill the flash in no time, forcing you to reflash in order to recover the image.

Just remember if you do decide to use a old image such as ViX 3.0-xxx it will no longer have access to the feeds, so you will need to install any and all plugins manually, and if a plugin requires dependencies you will have to install them manually too.

My setup's are very basic for my needs, at most I have CCcam / Mgcmd / Oscam (not all on the same receiver but some variation of one of them on each receiver), and maybe Ondemand. Thats about as exotic as my setup gets and I very rarely have any issues at all. Most users encounter issues because they fill their STB full of shite and dont bother with even the basic amount of general maintenance.

The only extra I need is TSPanel for the skin my wife likes, 'Purpleicious', she has a thing about purple. Well I removed the pre-formatted usb stick, 8Gb, and my PC told me, "Before I can use the usb it must be formatted. Duely done, re-inserted usb, mounted to receiver, NOPE, nada. A bit unsure about Rytec, what to download?? I will ask GK what/how he does his.

To be honest that very well could be the issue or a contributing factor towards it. TSpanel is a horrible plugin (I know many of you will disagree with me and say you have had it running fault free for years if so them great for you.) TSpanel is known to mess about with ViX and Pli images, it overwrites critical system files as part of it's install and installs all kinds of muck, not to mention it's habbit of messing up HDD and Network mount points.

So, once I can/have downloaded and setup, I'll leave well enough alone. I might just try a normal #37 image. I have tried Blackhole, ATV, PLI but to keep the peace always went back to vix. The wife prefers the way vix works. Thanks for the down on Internal Flash, I can remember reading yonks ago about that. I will ask GK about Rytec.

If you have a internal HDD just setup the EPG to use that as it's storage media, it wont cause you any issues and wont cause the HDD to spin up unnecessarily like storing picons on there would for example. CrossEPG works great and has been heavily adapted and updated specifically for ViX but like every thing else it's a matter of setting things up properly in the first place that makes all the difference.

Remember Rytek sources are internet based an if his servers go down you loose the EPG.

USB for picons and Image backups / settings backups / Logs and debug logs ( if you have Debug logs activated and saved to the HDD it will spin up all the time as it is constantly being written to ).

HDD for EPG, Image backups and settings backups.

Internal flash for Picons if you have enough flash that is, and you do have more than enough with the Solo2.

Gotcha. Leave it simple.
Yes it's best to keep things simple, remember this is a Satellite receiver, first and foremost, not a all singing and dancing home media center, regardless of what the manufacturers tell you.

I have been a satellite geek since 1989 and the ripe age of 11 years old, and I am still learning new things to this very day, but thats what keeps me coming back for more.

Hi Phoenix, thanks for input. I have taken on board about TSP and installed a new skin and uninstalled TSP. That's all I needed it for anyway. All seems to be OK at the 'moment?' fingers still crossed, (its a bugger trying to type like this), and if the board doesn't hear from me for a while all will be running OK.

Thanks again to GateKeeper and Phoenix for all your help.
