If i were to upgrade to windows 10 would all my settings be lost eg. library, documents. Should i save settings to usb for later updating or do i have to reinstall eveything from scratch?

If you upgrade you will keep your documents etc, if you do a fresh install you will loose them.

You can transfer your settings from Windows 7 or 8 using the WET (Windows Easy Transfer) Tool -

You should check the FAQ -

If you have an official copy, of 7 or 8, then id wait for the offical release.

Thanks for quick reply Banny. In the meantime i have reserved windows 10 from the icon which appeared on my pc. From what i could gather from reading on microsoft website it will be available for life on this particular m/c. As for transferring my settings i will do as you suggest and read FAQ .

Good news is no you won't lose a thing if you are already using Windows 7/8/8.1. You can do an inplace upgrade. Also all your stuff should already be being synchronized to your MS account (bit like google only better).

As advised by Microsoft, I took an image back up of my system before I moved onto preview last year but have never needed it nor do I think I ever will now. :D
