iPlayer added to Apple TV
The BBC has become the latest broadcaster to add its content to the fourth Generation Apple TV.
An app for the BBC iPlayer was made available on Monday, joining others from Sky News, NOW TV, NBC and as of last week the Belgian VRT.
In a blog post Peter Lasko, Senior Product Manager for BBC iPlayer, said the Apple TV app featured like live channel playback (including live pause and rewind), recommendations, search, parental guidance and the ability to navigate by voice using Apple’s voice control ‘Siri’.
However, because Apple uses a different format, there will be no subtitles for the time being.
Lasko said the BBC was also working with Apple on making BBC iPlayer programmes available via the Apple TV search.
Users of the app will also be able to link to content they’ve purchased in the new BBC Store.
Flemish public broadcaster VRT has added two apps, from cultural channel Canvas, and news programme Journal.
Canvas features a selection of curated content selected by the channel editors, while Journal features all of the VRT’s main news bulletins.
