Super RTL to launch SVOD service for kids
German family channel Super RTL will launch a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service for children between 3 and 13 years of age.

Kividoo will initially offer more than 3,500 series episodes, reports German business newspaper Handelsblatt. The rights providers delivering content will include Hollywood studio Dreamworks, Studio Hamburg, ZDF Enterprises, Hit Entertainment, BBC Worldwide and German publishing house Tessloff Verlag.

The service will launch on April 28, 2015, Super RTL’s 20th birthday. For a flat fee of €5.99 per month, users will be able to access the whole offering; the subscription can be cancelled monthly. Kividoo can be tested free of charge for 30 days.

kividooA version without texts will be offered for children between 3 and 6 years of age. The OTT service will be commercial-free and accessible in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by PC, smartphone and tablet. An offline function will enable downloading the programmes for later viewing without an internet connection, for example in the car, on the train or aeroplane.

Super RTL’s shareholders are RTL Group and Walt Disney with a 50% stake each. When Disney launched The Disney Channel on German free-to-air TV in competition to Super RTL in January 2014, the US studio ceased delivery of its productions to Super RTL. Kividoo will also not contain Disney content.
