UPC in The Netherlands is launching Horizon Extra, a client box to accompany the main set-top box in the home.

This client allows customers to watch any programme recorded on the main Horizon as well as continue watching the programme at another place in the house. Horizon Extra is available to all UPC customers already in possession of a Horizon Mediabox. Horizon Extra Mediabox is the first three months free and is then available for €5 per month. Up to two Extra boxes can be linked to the main set-top.

“We think it is important that our customers can make use of our services anywhere and anytime. With the introduction of the Extra box is it even easier for our customers. Recordings and Video on Demand services started on the main box, after all, can at any time continue to be viewed on the extra box, for example in the bedroom,” the operator said in a press release

Hans Blom, director, consumer: “The introduction of the Horizon Extra Mediabox fits into our strategy to offer our customers the ability to enjoy all our services anytime, anywhere.”

Following the merger of UPC Nederland with Ziggo, the Horizon setup will also become available to all current Ziggo customers.
