ARD debuts Ultra HD on Eutelsat Hot Bird
German public broadcaster ARD is gearing up for the new generation of high-definition television.
ARD affiliate station Hessischer Rundfunk (hr) and satellite operator Eutelsat have produced a new version of hr’s famous Pausenkatzen clip in Ultra HD/4K.
The clip will debut today at consumer electronics fair IFA 2015 on Eutelsat’s Ultra HD showcase channel Hot Bird 4k1. The channel broadcasts unencrypted on the Hot Bird satellite system at 13° East on the frequency 11.296 GHz H (SR 27,500, FEC 3/4).
The award-winning original Pausenkatzen (translated “pause cats”) clip has achieved cult status among TV viewers and YouTube users. It was produced by hr in 1970 and shot by author Eva Demski to fill the gaps between TV programmes.
“We are particularly happy about the collaboration with hr,” said Markus Fritz, director commercial development and marketing at Eutelsat. “On the one hand, the ‘cult pause cats’ are very popular among viewers. On the other hand, this is our first joint production and satellite transmission in Ultra HD with a German public broadcaster.”
