Sky Deutschland scores Europa League rights

Sky Deutschland has secured the live broadcasting rights for the UEFA Europa League up to and including the 2017/18 season. In combination with the rights for the UEFA Champions League, Sky will continue to exclusively show all matches of the German and Austrian teams. The new rights deal will become effective as of the 2015/16 season and includes not only the TV broadcasting rights, but also the rights for internet, IPTV, and mobile use in Germany and Austria.

Carsten Schmidt, Chief Officer Sports, Advertising Sales & Internet, said the broadcaster was convinced that the recent great results of the German teams in the international club competitions would further increase the attractiveness of the UEFA Europa League. ?With the long-term extension of the rights, football fans in Germany and Austria can rely on Sky remaining the Home of European top football in future. And why shouldn?t a German team finally win the competition once again and thereby secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League,? he added.

As announced at the beginning of the 2012/13 season, Sky will broadcast the matches of all German and Austrian clubs as well as selected top matches on each match day live and as a conference broadcast ? non regarding the number of participants. With only one match per match day shown parallel on free TV, Sky is showing the majority of the UEFA Europa League matches exclusively on German TV.

The new agreement also means a significant increase in exclusivity on the Austrian TV market. As in Germany, starting with the 2015/16 season, only one match per match day will be shown on free TV. This means that Sky Austria will exclusively show more matches of the UEFA Europa League than ever before in future.
