The Czech Republic’s two leading commercial broadcasters TV Nova and Prima TV plan to start charging for the retransmission of their channels.
By doing so, reports Digizone, they would be following in the footsteps of TV Nova’s sister operations in Romania, which are also owned by Central European Media Enterprises (CME).
It adds that the two stations have told pay-TV operators – cable, DTH and IPTV – that if they pay them for their clients they will be provided with all their channels, not just in SD but also in HD.
In the case of Prima, it currently provides its four SD channels free of charge via DTT.
However, it plans to charge cable, DTH and IPTV services CZK8.80 (€0.32) a month per subscriber and insists they be placed in the basic menu.
Meanwhile, Nova is asking only for payment of its HD services, either on their own or together with SD channels.
It has also drawn up a price list that besides linear transmission includes non-linear services and OTT.
